Child Advocates of Fort Bend
Awareness Fields Dedication

Child Advocates of Fort BendExchange Club of Fort Bend, Wednesday April 1st, 2015:  At 5:15pm, on the front lawn of the traditional county courthouse at 90-A and Fifth Street, Richmond TX., a dedication ceremony was conducted.  The Exchange Club of Fort Bend hosted County Judge Bob Hebert and Executive Director of Child Advocates of Fort Bend, Ruthanne Mefford, as they acknowledged that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  In addition to the proclamation  presented by Judge Hebert, Ms. Mefford and a member of the club will spoke on the plague known as child abuse. Those speaking  drew our attention to a field of 1223 white stakes adorned with a blue ribbon, each stake representing a unique child who, as a victim of abuse or neglect, was provided services in 2014 by Child Advocates of Ft. Bend. It was a poignant but brief ceremony.

Additionally, at 6:00pm on the same day, immediately following the dedication ceremony at the courthouse, members of the club  gatherd at the intersection of Present Street and 90-A in Stafford, to dedicate a similar Awareness Field.  At that time, Mayor Leonard Scarcella of Stafford and Mayor Allen Owen of Missouri City  read proclamations proclaiming April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  They were  joined in their remarks by a member of The Exchange Club of Ft. Bend, as all try and focus the county’s attention on the fact that although it exists, “there’s no excuse for child abuse”.
