On September 22nd, the Houston native and country music singer/songwriter takes the stage right here at Stafford Centre. Clint says, “One of my first jobs was selling subscriptions for the Houston Post in Stafford. I also did a short run singing at Sweetwater Country Club and my solo gig started in the Southwest parts of Houston. I spent 10 years in the Houston nightclub circuit. Everytime I come back, things look different…so different I can’t believe my eyes.”
With the release of his new album—On Purpose—Clint Black is back. On Purpose compiles a strikingly diverse group of Clint’s self-written and self-produced songs. But he’ll be playing all of your favorites at Stafford Centre. “Songs like A Better Man and Killin’ Time put me on the map. Of course I’ll play my hits and maybe a few from the new album too!”
Clint is the youngest of four brothers. His brother Kevin lost his daughter, Cortney, to Rett Syndrome—a rare genetic neurological and developmental disorder that affects the way the brain develops causing a progressive inability to use muscles for eye and body movements and speech. Since that time, the Black brothers have been expanding awareness of this often misdiagnosed syndrome. “We’ve been very fortunate in the research,” says Clint. “The gene that causes Rett has been identified. That’s a lot of hope for Rett families. My hope is that we can push forward in this research to lessen, reverse, or even eradicate the symptoms. I’m asking my fellow Texans if you have a little spare change and you’re looking for a good cause, visit RettSyndrome.org. We could use your help!”
“My wife Lisa is also from Houston, and I have a big piece of Texas art hanging right above my desk. Every time I look at it, I remember where I’m from. I don’t get to play my hometown that often, and I’m really looking forward to it!”
