Katy, Texas (February 10, 2014) – Tradition Bank, in partnership with Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center (KVPAC) and The Periwinkle Foundation, welcome Making A Mark, an exhibition of art by children touched by cancer and blood disorders at Texas Children’s Cancer & Hematology Centers to Katy. The extraordinary display features the works of young artists whose lives have been touched by cancer and blood disorders and provides a unique focus on their personal issues. The exhibit will first open to the public at Tradition Bank on Thursday, April 10 at 5:30 p.m. and then it will open at the gallery at KVPAC West Oaks on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00pm. Both events will serve complimentary wine and cheese to visitors. The cheese is courtesy of Cabot Cheese.

Making A Mark encourages all patients and their siblings to participate in sharing their feelings through applied art or creative writing. All submissions for the show are exhibited at the opening each September at Texas Children’s Hospital and then a selection of artwork travels to various locations throughout the year. Both Tradition Bank and KVPAC are honored to host the selection traveling in the Houston area.

Guests are invited to fill out a ‘Postcard from the Road’ that will be sent to the artist or the artist’s family to let the artists know the effect that their artwork has had on the lives of others and to offer them encouragement.

While this exhibit serves to shine a light on these amazing artists, it also highlights KVPAC’s ‘Healing Arts’ programs and its commitment to the Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers by providing professional art lessons at their West and Main Campuses.

Making A Mark is open to children from all pediatric cancer treatment centers free of charge each year, and has attracted art and writing submissions from around the world. To highlight Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Hematology Centers and The Periwinkle Foundation have proudly displayed more than 200 entries each year since the first exhibit in September 1991. Past exhibits have been shown in Japan, Washington, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and numerous cities throughout the state of Texas.

Tradition Bank is located at 1515 S. Grand Parkway, Katy, TX 77494. Gallery hours will be offered during the bank’s regular office hours through April 12. KVPAC’s West Oaks Mall location is 2600 Hwy 6 South, Suite 504, Houston, TX 77082. The exhibit will stay on display there until the end of the month. Viewing hours vary. Groups of 10 or more may schedule a private visit by contacting Kristin Miller, Director of Community Outreach Programs for KVPAC, at kmiller@KVPAC.org.
