“Reading between the Wines” presented by the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County is huge success!

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – “Reading between the Wines,” co-chaired by Heather Reichert and Brenda Bowman, was held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Safari Texas Ranch. At this second annual event, Mistress of Ceremonies Lily Jang hosted a night filled with amazing food, a brilliant New York Times best-selling author and fabulous wine provided by Allison Wen and Safari Texas Ranch. Commissioner James Patterson entertained guests as the evening’s auctioneer and helped the event raise over $108,000. Our high rollers of the night were Paul & Gena Horak.

Blue Willow Books was on location with all of featured author’s books and enjoyed a brisk business as guests purchased books from the featured authors. Guests were able to mix and mingle with these wonderful authors before and after hearing them speak. The attendees were quite moved listening to Paulette Jiles and Julia Heaberlin tell their stories. Kathy Duval, Betty Verdino and Nathan Barber were wonderful additions to this year’s author roster and added a nice local touch to the evening.

Many members of the Fort Bend Junior Service League & Fort Bend Teen Service League volunteered before and during this event. As with any event, none of it would have been possible without the hard work and time donated by our many volunteers & event committee members, so to all of the generous people that helped make this wonderful night happen, thank you!
