Say “Yes” to an Amazing Evening!

A huge life change starts with a single word, “Yes.” Through the Literacy Council of Fort Bend, students say “yes” to learning to read, write, and speak the English language, take GED preparation, basic Computer Skills, and US Citizenship classes from dedicated tutors…some of whom are homeland security trained. Through the Transitions Program, students earning their GED can take the next step in their education. Don Kerstetter of Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land, member of the Literacy Council’s Board of Directors, says, “All of the volunteers and tutors who have said ‘yes’ to helping others have made a real difference in the lives of families, professionals, and hardworking individuals throughout our community. Now we invite you to say ‘yes’ to our invitation to ‘Reading between the Wines.’”

Ready to toast to literacy? The third annual “Reading between the Wines,” is presented by Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land and Safari Texas and co-chaired by Dana Sitton and Bonnie Stewart. You’ll rub shoulders with best-selling authors and revel in a celebratory atmosphere with fabulous wine provided by Allison Wen and Safari Texas Ranch, amazing eats from a variety of local food vendors, and exciting auctions. This year you’ll enjoy New York Times best-selling author Linda Castillo, the award-winning author of over thirty books, including the recent thriller “Sworn to Silence,” filmed as “An Amish Murder,” starring Neve Campbell.

Your tax-deductible admission to this “can’t-miss event” includes an opportunity to hear Linda speak, as well as the chance to purchase an autographed copy of Linda’s books, and the opportunity to purchase autographed books and meet additional featured authors including Dr. Rebecca Deurlein, Benjamin Lewis, Shubhra Ramineni, Lynda Rutledge and Janice Scheve. Visit our website or Facebook page for more information and mark your calendar for “Reading between the Wines” at 7:00pm on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Safari Texas Ranch. Kelli Metzenthin, the Literacy Council’s Executive Director, says, “We depend on donations and fundraising events to continue our mission of ‘Changing Lives Through Literacy.’ Our students work hard to better themselves. We have celebrations when people get a GED or when they get their citizenship or when they move up a level in their proficiency, but the biggest celebration every day is when they walk in the door. Volunteers and donations make it all possible!”
