Two Rinks+One Cool Place=Tons of Fun!

Are you looking for a Winter Wonderland in the heart of Sugar Land? You’ll find hockey, figure skating, ice bumper cars, broomball, and families skating––even in the middle of summer––at the Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center. Jamie Feltus, General Manager, says, “Since we have two rinks and 8,000-square-feet, we’ve got room for all kinds of fun!”

Let’s lace up our skates and start with the basics. “Learn to skate” lessons and beginning hockey lessons for all ages are a great intro to the ice. Jamie says, “We get tons of families and groups of friends who drop in for one of our ‘Open Skating’ sessions…and want to learn more! We also have party rooms…so you can skate for your birthday, with your team, as a corporate team building exercise, or whenever you want to celebrate! We have some awesome add-ons including Broomball and Ice Bumper Cars…guaranteed to entertain all ages!”

Are you looking forward to following the Figure Skating (or Speed Skating or Hockey) in the 2014 Olympics? The Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center offers Figure Skating programs for beginners through advanced with competitions, shows, exhibitions, recitals, and the US Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. Jamie says, “Our Professional Coaching Staff includes National coaches and former World and Olympic competitors. Every Olympic Figure Skater was once a beginner at a rink just like ours!”
Go for the Gold with hockey at Sugar Land Ice…home to youth leagues, adult leagues and the Imperial Hockey Team, Houston’s first NA3HL South Division team. With a full slate of classes, leagues, and clinics, as well as a world class team of coaches, Sugar Land Ice provides the most comprehensive hockey program in the region.

Having two ice surfaces means you’ll find a dizzying array of activities at Sugar Land Ice. On one rink the medal-winning Houston Ice Theatre Skaters (HITS) might be rehearsing, while on another Skate Therapy might be spreading smiles. Jamie says, “Every Saturday morning at 9:30am instructors provide the liberating experience of ice skating to our skaters with special needs. From school fundraisers to parties to lessons to free skate…we promise to be one place that’s always filled with fun!”

What else is happening behind the scenes at the Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center? Olympic Silver Medalists Kitty Carruthers-Conrad and her brother Peter are preparing for the America Legends on Ice event to be televised on NBC on February first. “It’s been great to get back and skate with Kitty while we put in the work to prepare for the Legends event,” says Peter. “Pairs skating takes balance, strength, unison, and timing. Since I’m working for Universal Sports as a commentator, we’ve only been able to train together on the weekends.” Kitty says, “Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center really has something to offer everyone…from theater on ice to hockey to beginning skate classes to open skate sessions to skate therapy to parties. I’ve been coaching and offering group and private lessons here for twenty years…and I love it!”

“Not only is this Ice Center conveniently located,” says Peter, “but they’ve also got good access to the ice with practice times available before and after school. They accommodate busy schedules and make it easy for kids to skate without interfering with school. I think it’s the inner strength and determination I developed through skating that gave me the fire to hike to the top of Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the US. Any child or adult who learns to skate will be training to accomplish so much more!”
