During the hustle and bustle of the holidays, the greatest gift you can give you family is sharing quiet moments together. Designer Caron Lopez, who with husband Candelario, owns Grand Windows and Interiors, says, “Take the time to gather around the kitchen table to share stories of your day, to bake and cook and decorate together, enjoying Christmas music and remembering that the best blessings in life can’t be wrapped and put under a tree.”
“One Christmas well-remembered by my husband and children was one when we short on money for non-necessities. I bought food items for the stockings we hung on the mantle. Into each stocking I tucked a funny note. For my daughter (who didn’t eat bananas) I put a note on an orange that said, ‘Orange you glad I’m not a banana?’ We had so much fun! The kids went back and re-gifted each item throughout the year…adding their own version of funny notes. The greatest gift we can give our children is teaching them to treasure the happy memories we make together…and so many of those memories are made in the kitchen.”
“If the kitchen is the heart of the home, your heart may be overflowing this holiday season. When it’s fragrant with the scents of cinnamon, apple, and clove, you have your favorite carol playing in the background, and the lights are twinkling on the tree, it may be hard to imagine anything better. But if your kitchen is bursting at the seams with all your friends and family (not to mention pots and pans and baking sheets), maybe it’s time to dream big…and at Grand Windows and Interiors, we believe in making dreams come true. Instead of putting one wrapped box after another under the tree, your family could save up for a kitchen spacious enough to embrace your ever-expanding family, one with storage at hand for all your favorite bakeware, one designed to reflect your personality and the things you hold most dear.”
“My favorite part of designing is creating something special that truly speaks to your unique vision. As a former science teacher, I was thrilled to be asked to use my talents and inspiration to benefit the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Sugar Land. I created a beautiful upholstered screen and a fantasy Christmas tree with iridescent peacock to deliver a vivid touch of elegant whimsy. Once it’s auctioned off, I hope it brings as much happiness to its new home as I had while designing it!”
“Merry Christmas from me, Candelario, and our fellow designers Joni Britton and Tracy Hendricks. May 2015 be a year of magic, dreams, and joy for you and your family!”
