“You don’t have to walk very far to find someone whose life has been touched by cancer,” says Jim Gibson. “In 1990 both my dad and my wife Jill’s father were diagnosed with different types of cancer. They passed away barely a week apart five years later. Losing them made a huge impact on our lives, and we couldn’t imagine a better way to honor them than by helping other families going through similar tough times. We are honored to serve this year as Event Chairs for the American Cancer Society Event, Couture for the Cause, along with Amy and Dan Johnson, Cari and Scott Middaugh and KK and S. Scott West.”
Jill says, “Losing our fathers to cancer was so very painful, Jim and I couldn’t imagine how much more difficult it would have been without sufficient health care, family involvement, and resources. In addition to research and education, the funds raised by the American Cancer Society through Couture for the Cause support families through transportation, lodging, and medical care. Our fathers were active men, loving dads, and would have been fantastic grandfathers. Now Jim and I are the same age they were when they were diagnosed. Of our three daughters, only the oldest has even the vaguest memories of two of the biggest influences on our lives. Couture for the Cause is a wonderful way to honor a loved one by helping others!”
The American Cancer Society Couture for the Cause, A Night in Versailles, Masquerade, will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the home of KK and S. Scott West. Planned events include a poolside fashion show produced by Lenny Matuszewski and featuring couture models, many of whom are cancer patients or survivors, seizing their own opportunity to give back. You won’t want to miss the wine pull, “Champagne and Diamonds Raffle,” and craveable food from local restauranteurs. Tara and Rick Ray of Wealth Design Group are serving as the Couture for the Cause Presenting Sponsor for the second year in a row.
