Deacon’s Dugout Kicks Off Annual Fundraiser

More Than a Dozen Teams Raise $11,300 for Local Youth

Sugar Land, TX (May 7, 2014) — Seismic Ventures’ Velocity Raptors kicked their way to No. 1 during the inaugural Sugar Land Skeeters Kickball Classic.

More than a dozen teams participated in the March 29 double-elimination tournament benefiting Deacon’s Dugout Foundation, which raises funds to help local disadvantaged youth in the area. The organization is named after former Major League Baseball player Deacon Jones, who is now a special assistant with the Sugar Land Skeeters.

“We raised approximately $11,300 which is an impressive start for this new annual event,” Jones said. “We will be able to help so many more children through educational and healthy activities thanks to the generosity of these companies and their employees.”

Winning best costume at the event was The Johnson Development Corp. Glam Slams team, who wore team shirts and pink tutus. Best name honors went to the Roberts Market Weinberg Butler Hailey law firm, who played as Attractive Nuisance.

Other companies facing off on the field were Unified Energy; The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Sugar Land; Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation; Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital; Trendmaker Homes; Nalco Champion; Sugar Creek Baptist Church, Sienna campus; Solar Craft, Inc.; and the Missouri City fire and police departments.

In-kind sponsors were the Sugar Land Skeeters, Fastenal, Ronn Goodier, Legends Hospitality and Fort Settlement Middle School PALS.
