Inspiring Olympic Dreams

What do children get from watching an Elite gymnastics competition? Amazement, excitement…and inspiration. You can see it in their shining eyes as they wonder, “How does he spin like that? Will she fall off the beam? Could I ever do that too?” You can get your kids fired up about the dedication, the focus, and the fun of gymnastics by bringing them to the 20th Annual Houston National Invitational (HNI) on January 31-February 2nd at Reliant Arena.

Elite local, national, and international World-class gymnasts will compete at the 20th Annual Houston National Invitational (HNI) for more than $50,000 in cash prizes and other prestigious awards including the valued Open Team Cup Competition. Crowds will cheer for gymnasts in Men’s, Women’s, Tumbling and Trampoline from all across the United States and countries like China, Japan, Israel, Ukraine, Mexico, and Brazil…all competing at HNI. This year’s competition will feature USA World Team Member, 2008 Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist and 2012 Olympian Jonathan Horton and National Champion and 2012 Olympic Team Alternate Chris Brooks. Also confirmed are Brandon Wynn – 2013 world medalist and John Orozco, 2012 Olympian and 2013 World medalist, competing in the HNI with the US Olympic Training Center Team! And get ready to flip for the Academy Championships featuring Army, Navy and Air Force Varsity Gymnastics Teams!

Hosted by the Houston Gymnastics Center of the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, the HNI is a premier national gymnastics competition featuring over 3000 of the world’s top athletes. The Houston Gymnastics Center of the ERJCC raises funds to support scholarship programs, activities and equipment for athletes and community outreach programs. Tim Erwin, HNI Founder and Gymnastics Director at the The ERJCC, says, “We’re happy to announce our 2nd Annual HNI Fundraising Dinner was a success. Guests included writer and politician Kinky Friedman, 2014 Crowned World Champion Simone Biles, 2008 USA Olympic Bronze medalist Kevin Tan, and other prominent gymnasts, coaches and a wide array of business sponsors and community leaders. Biles competed in past HNI events and shared her love of the sport by signing autographs for gymnasts and supporters attending the dinner.”

Exciting international events like HNI bring us all closer. Community sponsors include underwriter SigmaBleyzer, the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine, BFL Associates, LTD, Basel’s Gymnastics and Cheer, The ERJCC Houston Gymnastics Center, GK Elite Sportswear, and Houston Highway Credit Union. Their generosity allows HNI to offer cash prizes and award trophies to attract the top talent in the field. $50,000 in cash awards go directly back to athletes and their programs. Not only that, but the event also raises funds to support the All Academy Collegiate Championships, as well Elite gymnasts, The Wounded Warrior Project, and many scholarships and booster clubs.

Many junior competitors at the HNI go on to become Olympians and college scholarship recipients…and young audience members may be inspired to pursue their own gymnastics dreams. Don’t miss out on this exciting event…January 31st through February 2nd right here in Houston!
