Are You the Keeper of the Winning Chili Recipe?

Did you know chili recipes date back as far as 1850? And that prior to World War II, hundreds of small, family-run chili joints popped up throughout Texas, most of which laid claim to some sort of secret recipe?

Maybe YOU know the secret! Beans or no beans? Tomatoes or chili peppers (or both?) Accompaniments? Do you pile it high with grated cheese, diced onions, and sour cream…or maybe you like your chili straight up with just a spoon. However you like it, whatever your secret recipe, it’s time to put it all on the line at the 6th Annual Classic Chevy Sugar Land Chili Challenge. Don Kerstetter of Classic Chevy says, “Last year we had over 40 teams participate, 3500 people attend, and we proudly raised over $50,000 for the Sugar Land Police Officer’s Association. That’s nearly $30,000 more than the previous year. The gauntlet has been thrown. Can we beat $50,000? I can’t wait to see…and taste…the competition!”

Classic Chili Challenge 2016
Bring your Spicy, Specialty, Texas, or Bean secret recipe to the Classic Chevy Sugar Land Chili Challenge on April 14, 2016 from 4-8pm for a chance to win cash, trophies, and serious bragging rights. Mark Kolon, General Sales Manager, says “We’ll have a live band, kids’ games, a bouncy house, fire trucks…and gallons of Fort Bend’s best chili. We’ll also have a panel of celebrity judges including returning judges Susie and Doug Goff of Johnson Development, Michael Garfield the High Tech Texan, and new this year Sylvia Casares, the “Enchilada Queen’ at Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, Don Guggenheim, owner of Corelli’s Italian Cafe, Gary Greene Realtor Debbie Marcell and her husband Marvin Marcell, Former Houston Astro Eric Anthony and his wife Robin–owner of Renu Herbs, and Scott & KK West of West Law Firm…but the most important is always YOU! A $2 donation for admission (benefiting the Police Fund) will get you into the event for all the chili you can eat…and don’t forget a pocket full of dollars to vote for your favorites. Classic Chevy Sugar Land covers all expenses, so all money raised will go to the Sugar Land Police Officers Association. Our motto at Classic Chevy is ‘Relax and Enjoy the Difference’…and I can’t think of a better night to do that than at the Chili Challenge!”
