Have your kids been enjoying the excitement and changes in their first month of a new school year? Your kindergartners and first graders may enjoy a few others big changes…to their smiles! Dr. Bianca Sanchez at Little People’s Dentistry says, “Most children also lose their first tooth between ages five and six…and for every child that loses a tooth, another tooth fairy job is created! I thought I would share a few tooth fairy lessons I’ve learned over the years!”
For many children, the tooth fairy visit is their very first financial transaction. Dr. Sanchez says, “Sometimes the tooth fairy gives a quarter, sometimes a dollar. And I’ve even seen $5, $10 and $20! Maybe the first tooth lost fetches more than other teeth, but sometimes I think the tooth fairy forgets each child has 20 baby teeth! Uncommon coins or bills are fun too…like silver dollars, two dollar bills, or even coins from another country.”
But how about when the neighbor’s child lost a tooth and the tooth fairy left footprints in glitter?? Dr. Sanchez says, “I’m pretty sure that’s a day that the tooth fairy spent a lot of time on Pinterest! There are all sorts of ideas out there for when the tooth fairy wants to be creative…spraying dollar bills with glitter hairspray, certificates to print and cute gift ideas. Sometimes tooth fairies are feeling like doing arts-n-crafts…and they go all out!”
But not every tooth fairy feels creative every day…sometimes a tooth fairy just outright forgets to show up! Dr. Sanchez says, “Any tooth fairy can make a mistake or get busy retrieving other teeth. Sometimes the child is rewarded a little extra for waiting. A sweet letter from the tooth fairy is also a nice touch.”
“You can always refer any questions to me,” adds Dr. Sanchez, “because I’m happy to discuss dental hygiene and tooth fairy etiquette during a checkup. Just remember, all tooth fairies everywhere prefer healthy, strong teeth! Parents and kids can find plenty of tips to keep those teeth sparkling on our website, www.littlepeoplesdentistry.com. Visiting our office twice a year for your cleaning will make you tooth fairy happy and your smile beautiful!”
