Smart Bathroom Design for Life’s Changing Needs

Jay and Carol Gould have lived in their Sugar Land home for 25 years. The house was built in 1995 and still had the original primary bathroom.

“You had to step up to get to the shower. We’re both in our 80s, so we needed something more livable for the long term,” Carol says. “Lone Star Floors removed the step and redesigned the area to provide a flat entry into our much larger custom shower.”

Ziad, one of the three cousins who own and run Lone Star Floors’ three locations, was on-site to make sure things went as planned. Affectionately known as Z to his crew and clients, he had already completed several jobs at the Gould home, so they knew they could trust the company to make this big adjustment in their primary bathroom.

“We lifted the inside shower for walker or wheelchair access … it’s now a flat entry to make the transition into the shower easier,” Ziad says.

With its flat entry and several grab bars, the shower is ready for life’s changes. “Jay has a shower chair for a disability, and there’s plenty of room to accommodate the chair,” Carol says. “He just loves sitting below the big rain showerhead. I like using the hand-held shower wand on days I don’t want to get my hair wet.”

“The update is wonderful,” Carol continues. “And I love Z. He’s my buddy. He is so friendly and outgoing. He’s done a few things for us. I would definitely recommend Lone Star Floors. He would come check on the guys almost every day. Their work made the house livable for us two old people.”
