A Vibrant Art Experience Is Closer Than You Think
Did you know you don’t have to drive into downtown Houston to see beautiful works of art? There’s a thriving art museum right in your own community.
Art Museum TX is an energetic art museum that brings social and cultural transformation to the greater Fort Bend and neighboring areas to create a vibrant art community. And it’s located in the heart of Sugar Land, prominently in Sugar Land Town Square.
Ana Villaronga-Roman, the museum’s director and curator, wanted to kick off the art season with a bang. The current exhibition, showing through Sept. 27, 2026, is called ‘At Play’ and features artists Julie Howard and Ron Gordon. It displays hyper-realist drawings by Julie alongside expressive paintings by Ron. “It is quite an amazing celebration of color,” Ana says.
“Julie is a Houston native now living in Alvin, and Ron is a Sugar Land resident,” Ana continues. “We’re committed to the many Texas residents living in Harris and Fort Bend Counties or the greater Houston area. We focus on exhibiting the best of Texas local, contemporary art.”
Art Museum TX provides an interchange for visual arts of the present and recent past, presents new directions in art, strives to engage the public, and encourages a greater understanding of contemporary art through education programs. Established in 2020, Art Museum TX is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to presenting contemporary art from local artists to the public.
Entrance to the museum is free, but they accept donations from patrons who feel moved to support having a vibrant art museum in our community.
After ‘At Play’ closes, Art Museum TX will feature a special group exhibition in collaboration with the Sugar Land Arts & Music Festival. “The festival board and I have been working hard to celebrate the festival, which occurs in Sugar Land Town Square for the first time. We think the community will welcome and embrace it in its new home,” Ana says.
