Expanding Comprehensive Primary Care in Fort Bend and Beyond

According to a report published by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) last year, the United States will face a physician shortage of up to 86,000 physicians by 2036. Capital Internal Medicine Associates is proactively expanding its primary care arm, Capital Health and Wellness, to ensure more people have access to primary medical care.

Brothers Dr. Salman Aly and Dr. Sarfraz Aly are the leaders of the Capital Associates practices, which also specialize in wound care, infectious disease, and medical aesthetics.

Primary Care for All
“With a successful and firmly established primary care location in Sugar Land, we made the decision to extend this fundamental care to other areas as well,” explains Dr. Salman. “That’s our vision – to provide primary care and effortless hospital admissions when needed to people who are currently challenged with finding appropriate care for themselves and their loved ones. There’s a huge need out there.”

The brothers’ expansion plan will have Capital Health and Wellness rooted in 10 to 12 clinics by 2035 to help them fulfill their vision of helping our community stay healthy. “With the population growing so fast, especially those in the 65+ category, our community needs more physicians. Our goal with Capital Health and Wellness is to serve the increased population with primary care while also increasing the range of hospitals our practice can admit to when necessary.”

Capital’s primary care practice handles issues related to diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, and conducts thorough physical exams. “We see elderly patients and want to ensure they’re safe in their environments and have home health care, when needed. We have a lot of compassion for our patients,” says Dr. Salman.

A Non-Profit to Help the Uninsured
To extend their primary care capabilities even further, the brothers created a non-profit that provides healthcare to the uninsured in Matagorda, Fort Bend, Harris, and Wharton counties. It is funded by government grants, contributions from the physicians themselves, and contributions from the public.

“We started the non-profit based on our experiences when growing up,” says Dr. Salman. “We didn’t have medical insurance. Our father had a heart attack and we had to navigate getting him the care he needed, while figuring out how to pay for it.”

The non-profit program provides: primary care for the indigent; early care for mental health diagnoses; and mother and early childhood care. You can contribute at ucftexas.org and help the Aly brothers help our community get the healthcare they need. The foundation welcomes assistance from private and public donors to continue expanding on their vision.
