As Sugar Land’s first free-standing ER, St. Michael’s has nine exam rooms (including specially designated pediatric rooms) their own X-ray, Ultrasound and CT, an on-site diagnostic lab and all the amenities of any other ER…without the wait! Co-founder Dr. Shannon Orsak says, “No one gets better sitting in a waiting room. When one local woman was stricken by sudden acute pain, she couldn’t drive. She says, “I was supposed to pick up a friend. When I didn’t show up, she knew something was wrong. She came to find me and took me straight to St. Michael’s. I had an acute myocardial infarction, a heart attack, right there in the emergency room! They gave me all the medications I needed, and arranged for a private ambulance to take me to the vascular institute at Memorial SW. At the hospital, we bypassed everything and went straight to the operating room. In hindsight the whole experience seemed miraculous. I told the doctor I felt like I was dying and he told me that I was…the only thing that saved me was getting immediate help from St. Michael’s. St. Michael’s literally saved my life!”
 

 
Another local woman woke up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain. She says, “When my husband realized how bad it was, he took me right to St. Michael’s. The doctor on duty looked at me and said ‘I think you have a blood clot in your lung.’ Twenty minutes later I had blood drawn and a CT scan…and it was! They transferred me straight into a bed at the hospital. Everything happened so fast! When my stretcher was going out the door, Dr. Orsak said, ‘You have to come see me and let know you’re doing well.’ I really feel cared for at St. Michael’s.”
