Enjoying Autumn to the Fullest

By Joelie Key-Tissot

The sky darkens early. There’s a chill in the air. Leaves turn golden and feather down from the trees. Time for favorite sweaters, cardigans, scarves and gloves. Ah, September. In Maine, maybe. Record temps for September in the Houston area hover around 99F. In the past decade, temperatures have burst into triple digits. Autumn in Sugar Land is still A/C season and that can be taxing on your back-to-school budget. Take this advice from local A/C expert, Brian Jackson:

Jackson Shades

Shun the Sun. Keep the sun out by keeping blinds, shades and curtains closed from noon to dusk.

Jackson Doors

Circulate. Keep the air moving by opening interior doors and vents and using energy-efficient ceiling fans which cost under $.50 a day to run.

Clean and Clear. Keep filters changed at least monthly. Keep outdoor units clear of plants and debris.

Don’t Cool an Empty Home. Keep your thermostat around 78F when you’re home and raise it to 82F when you’re not.

Pay Attention. If you notice decreased air flow, strange noises or odors, the A/C running constantly to keep up, the A/C breaker tripping, ice on your AC or piping or your outdoor fan won’t come on, you need to get your A/C checked and serviced.

Preventive Maintenance. Have your A/C serviced to prevent unexpected breakdowns and increase the efficiency of the system

Upgrade. Remember that if your A/C unit is more than 10 years old, it may be time to purchase a new unit. The Trane XL20i is designed to minimize energy costs and maximize efficiency by running at a lowering output capacity and operating speed to only what is needed.

According to Brian Jackson of Jackson Air & Heat, the cutting edge TruComfort TM technology used in the XL20i makes it “the quietest A/C on the market…great at removing humidity and you can control the system any where with the free app on your smart phone or computer!” Because it’s so efficient, Brian says, “You’ll be spending less every time it comes on.” Energy-efficient, quiet and cool! “It’s really a win-win situation!” And Brian knows his stuff.
