The eye is the lamp of the body

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”

“Your eyes are the windows to your health,” says Dr. Anh Doan of Missouri City’s Vision Source. “As an Optometrist, I diagnose and manage treatment for diseases, disorders, and injuries of the eye…and offer co-management and aftercare for cataracts surgery, LASIK, or other major procedures. Remember I do more than glasses…I’m the primary care provider for your eyes!”

Instead of sitting in an ER or Urgent Care Center to see a doctor who’s not a specialist, call Dr. Doan for vision or eye emergencies. She says, “Some emergencies include ocular trauma like being hit by a baseball, a foreign body like a shard of metal or plastic, and conjunctivitis (pink eye). Lastly, if you suddenly see a large influx of floaters accompanied by flashes of light, I would be concerned about a retinal tear or detachment, which requires treatment within 24 hours to prevent permanent vision loss. Call me first for any eye emergency.”

If you have itchy, red eyes, you need a real eye doctor, not just a Google expert. Dr. Doan says, “Dry eye syndrome is different from allergies, although the two conditions can co-exist or even exacerbate each other. Both uncontrolled allergies and unrelieved dry eyes can lead to abrasion, infection, slowness in healing, decreased sensitivity, scarring, or even loss of vision. When your eyes don’t feel well, you won’t see well either…but I offer the right diagnosis and treatment!”

Has your vision started to get blurry? Dr. Doan says, “Sometimes the answer is as simple as a new glasses prescription, but other times poor vision is caused by a more serious condition. Glaucoma affects more than 2.2 million Americans and it’s completely painless. Diabetic retinopathy is a common complication of diabetes and the leading cause of new-onset blindness in American adults. A comprehensive eye exam is the only way to detect either of these diseases. There is no cure in these cases for loss of vision…but with early detection and treatment, we can usually save your sight.”

Protect your vision by visiting Dr. Doan every year…and keep her number in your phone for emergencies. She says, “I’m always happy to see you!”
