Tutors do not need knowledge of any foreign language, nor do they need formal teaching experience. There are only three qualifications needed to become a tutor at the Literacy Council, a desire to help adult students, patience and commitment to three hours of tutoring per week. Tutor hours vary according to the tutor’s schedule. The Literacy Council is especially in need of “Night Owls” who would like to volunteer to tutor in the evenings.

In addition to tutoring at the Literacy Council’s main location in Sugar Land, volunteer tutors are needed at 15 outreach locations across Fort Bend County. Outreach locations allow tutors to be placed at a location near their home.

If you are interested in impacting someone’s life by becoming a tutor, please contact the Literacy Council at 281.240.8181 or visit the website at www.ftbendliteracy.org. The next tutor training dates are May 5, 7, 12 & 14. Help us to “Change Lives Through Literacy!”
