Make Your Dream a Reality

Dreaming of updating your home? Everything you envision, from start to finish, Teri Gilberg (aka ‘The Re-Modelista’) can make it happen! We asked her to tell us about the recent kitchen and breakfast room transformation completed for a local family in Sugar Creek. To quote Teri, “This particular client envisioned a more tranquil finish to the rooms in a country french design, using durable but easy to upkeep materials and wanted to bring in more light by expanding the outside views. Home remodeling is like a puzzle and I really enjoy making the configurations work. You tell me what you want, and I piece it together, coordinating everything while helping you make money-saving decisions.”

“Guiding the client through the process, we first selected a soothing wall color, Sherwin Williams ‘Comfort Gray,’ to establish the muted background for the rest of the design. For the kitchen and small desk countertops, rather than granite, we chose Silestone Quartz in a neutral ‘bamboo’ color. Being non-porous and highly resistant to stains and scratches, this met our durability and easy-to-clean requirements.”

For the floors, the homeowners preferred wood. Teri says, “Wood is beautiful, but in applications around sinks and dishwashers, it’s not the most practical choice for durability. Instead we chose Cambridge Oak porcelain tile from Marrazzi. Honestly, it requires a second look, probably even a touch, to be positive it’s not wood. The beauty of wood with the benefits of durable porcelain! For the backsplash, we picked a multi-hued glass mosaic tile to tie it all together. The glass provided a subtle sheen with its varying tones, which complemented the wall color, flooring and counters.”

“We decided on stainless for the appliances and my client made the selections from locally-owned Sara Appliance. Remember the request for enhanced views? We removed both the kitchen garden window over the sink and the breakfast room divided-grid, triple, french doors. These were replaced with energy efficient ‘full light’ custom doors and a single fixed-pane picture window over the sink and voila’–beautiful, unobstructed views. The look was completed by faux painting the cabinets, adding custom crown molding, and recessed LED lighting.”

Do you have a remodeling design puzzle that needs solving? Whatever your ideas, let Teri turn your dreams into reality!
