Alan’s Plumbing is known throughout Fort Bend County as the go-to family plumbing business. Three sons followed the company’s founder and namesake, Alan Burkhalter, into the family business – Beau and Luke, who work every day at Alan’s Plumbing, and Jake, who is in plumbing sales.
“We’re home-grown. All of our plumbers started here as apprentices. We have never hired a plumber who trained elsewhere. We like our plumbers to build on our strong in-house training that starts with Alan,” Luke says.
“I grew up with friends whose families had family businesses, but none of my friends went into those businesses,” says Beau. “You don’t realize how special a family business is until you’re a part of it … you just don’t understand the family legacy.”
Alan himself personally trained his sons on the ins and outs of the plumbing business. Both Beau and Luke started working at Alan’s when they were just 20 years old.
“I taught them everything I know about plumbing, transparency in pricing, and professionalism. But I also taught them how to work safely. It’s tough work, but it’s truly rewarding. We know exactly what’s at stake when we go on a job – your family’s health and safety, and our own,” says Alan.
“When we started working with our dad, we’d visit clients and they always wanted Alan himself,” says Jake. “They always got Alan, but they got us too. We had to prove that we were as capable as our dad.”
For more than 30 years, Alan’s has been helping residents in Fort Bend County. The Burkhalters are all settled here and enjoy serving the community where they grew up.
“We are the community plumber. We still serve the same community we’ve been helping since 1996. We all work in the communities where we live. We like to build our customers the way we’ve grown our business – through trust and a family feel,” Luke explains. “My son, Wyatt, came on his first service call with me when he was just five years old. He said, ‘as soon as I’m out of my car seat, I’m coming to work with you all the time!’”
“We build personal relationships, which results in repeat customers. When we walk into their homes, we feel like we’re walking into our friends’ homes,” Beau adds.
Today, the brothers work with their dad, their Uncle Chris (Alan’s brother), and plumbers Jaime, Christian, and Anthony, with apprentices Nick, Noah, and PJ helping them out. Their mom, Jennifer, runs the back office with Katie and Katy.
“My boys have been helping their father with plumbing since they could hold a wrench,” says Jennifer.
Alan was raised on hard work and honesty.
Alan says, “My grandfather believed in core values and integrity, and he passed these ideals on to us. Here at Alan’s Plumbing, hard work is all in the family.”
“We are your local plumbers,” Luke concludes.
