The Rios family has a 28-year legacy of fabulous food. Local Veritas Steak and Seafood owner Kevin Rios says, “My father Mario and my mother Maggie were both immigrants and entrepreneurs. I grew up around the restaurant business, working in several Houston restaurants. In 2005, I opened Mojitos Cuban Bistro together with my parents. While Mojitos was very successful, we wanted to venture more into fine dining. That’s how Veritas was born. Our vision was a combination of fine dining, a superb wine experience, and superior service. After 10 years at our location on Brooks Lake, we closed our doors. I then opened Drake’s Burgers in Greatwood (named for my son Drake!). But I missed fine dining. I missed my customers, talking about wine, and the food. So I brought Veritas back, this time in Greatwood!”

New location, but the same great menu featuring USDA prime steaks, fresh seafood, and East Coast oysters prepared by some of the best in the industry. Executive chef Alex Mendoza has been with Kevin for 17 years, and sous chef Gustavo Escobar has been with him for 12. All desserts are made in-house by pastry chef Maria Flores (with Kevin for 8 years!). This is an upscale experience with exquisite food. Customers are greeted at the door with a glass of complimentary sparkling wine. Enjoy the elegance indoors or retreat to the patio cocktail lounge to enjoy the fire pit. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 4-7. On Friday and Saturday nights, the restaurant is adults-only from 9 to midnight with a different, late-night menu and reverse happy hour. Kevin says, “The bar menu includes the popular Drake’s Burger. We have live music every Friday and theme nights every Saturday.” There’s a wine pairing dinner every third Monday of the month (reservations required), and a Saturday brunch is coming to Veritas soon.

Reservations to dine at Veritas can be made through OpenTable. “I do recommend reserving a table Wednesday through Saturday,” says Kevin. “Then join us for the finest, freshest ingredients possible and a world class wine list. I promise…you’ll be impressed!”
